Humbleness
As a reminder, just as lighthouses are powerful lights used to avoid dangerous areas; lighthouse principles are powerful beacons to guide successful people in all endeavors in life. They rise above so that they can be easily detected and used to navigate any situation involving the specific principle.

If you choose to ignore the principle then you run the risk of running aground and preventing yourself from moving forward. You will find out how critical they are if you live your life in contrast to the principles. This is the sixth in a series of blogs that are dedicated to highlighting the 10 principles that spell out L-I-G-H-T-H-O-U-S-E:

• Listening
• Integrity
• Gratitude
• Honesty
• Trust
• Humbleness
• Optimism
• Understanding
• Strategy
• Empathy

Humbleness is a way successful people demonstrate strength through vulnerability. They allow themselves to be seen in ways that others can relate and connect with by being human. They know the power and benefit of authenticity, openness, and transparency. They are not without fears or insecurities but they are not willing to hide behind them but embrace who they are – fully! Being humble is about showing respect and dignity to all including themselves. They are gracious in all aspects of life, not boastful or self-deprecating. They treat others as they would want to be treated – the golden rule.

Humble people understand the value of building others up in that it boosts and supports their own confidence as well. With their confidence strengthened they become people of influence and without the need to be guarded allows them to be more open and receptive. Humble people have the advantage of not letting their mistakes or failures define them but instead provide them with new opportunities to learn.

Humbleness as a guiding principle realizes that true success requires other people support and encouragement. They recognize their talents and abilities as gifts to be shared and are made all the more valuable by letting others benefit from them as well. Humbleness brings about a lifelong attitude of learning and listening intently always seeking first to understand before making any hasty decisions. Humbleness is about seeing each person as unique and special – with an ability to recognize the beauty and potential that exits within.

To be guided by this principle then strive to be fair, consistently contribute to make others lives better, express gratitude generously, openly praise others for their contributions and accomplishments and be confident with who you are!
