The number 2.9013  is very important and one you should not ignore or forget.  It is based on a decade of research on high and low performance teams by psychologist and business consultant Marcial Losada.

Based on Losada’s extensive mathematical modeling, 2.9013 is the ratio of positive to negative interactions necessary to make a corporate team [as well as an individual] successful.  This means that it takes about 3 positive comments, experiences, or expressions to fend off the effects of one negative encounter.  If you dip below this tipping point workplace performance quickly nosedives.  Rise above it and research says ideally to a ratio of 6 to 1 and teams produce their very best work.

Barbara Fredrickson popularized this ratio on her website www.PositivityRatio.com where she will give you your ratio after you answer 20 quick questions. You can track your ratio for two weeks and gauge how you are doing.
